Inside the gates on Svartbäcksgatan lies Linnaeus's own botanical garden, an oasis of greenery in central Uppsala. In the periodic plant blocks, more than 1,000 species are grown, arranged according to Linnaeus's system, with annuals and perennials groups separately. Nowhere else do you come as close to Linnaeus's work and achievement as in his garden. The first teaching garden on the site was planted as early as 1655, by Olof Rudbeck the Elder. In the garden there is a café and restaurant. Booking via Uppsala Linnaean Gardens, tel 018-471 28 38 (weekdays 9:30-11:30am), email to: bokning@botan.uu.se, or Uppsala Tourism, phone 018-727 48 18.
